With the four Arabic speaking artists and other valued community members
On 6 June 2021, we were delighted to take part in launching the exhibition “HOME” hosted at Campbelltown Arthouse. HOME exhibition came out as a celebration of a two year long audience research project led by Nexus Arts to assess how culturally diverse communities engage with the artistic experiences in Adelaide. The research resulted in a toolkit publication with the tiltle “You’re Welcome: A Guide for Arts Organisations to Increase Cultural Diversity in Our Audiences“
In fact, in 2020-2021, ALCASA leadership members were invited to support the project by reaching out to Arabic speaking audience and invite them to participate in the research investigation and in the HOME exhibition reflecting on the places we consider as home. This was considered as a great opportunity to enhance our connection with Nexus Arts where we hosted our the ALCASA occasional events and celebrations. Getting involved in the research project provided an unprecendented opportunity to deepen our understading of the arts context in south Australia, also to get meet with representatives from other organisations supporting the project.
The exhibition included artwork by four Arabic-speaking artists, Tania Zebian, Alissar Aleid, Hala Naji, and Manar Alnaghees. It was quite empowering to witness the launch of the exhibition in presence of His Excellency Hieu Van Le AC, the Governor General of South Australia and the Honourable Jing Lee, MLC (South Australia).
HOME exhibition was open to the public from 8 to 30 June 2021 at Campbeltown Arthouse, 168 Montacute Rd, Rostrevor.
